Position Overview/Summary:

The Welding Engineer provides expertise and technical support to: manufacturing, sales, product engineering, supply chain, field service, and service centers. The qualified individual will help resolve manufacturing and field issues, direct procedure qualification record and weld procedure specification test, manage weld test related programs, and participate in quality improvement and cost reduction efforts.





Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

Required:
* BS in Welding Engineering / Materials Science or related degree.
* US Citizen - to be able to obtain DOD and work on US government or military projects.
* Experienced in developing and upgrading Stick, GMAW, GTAW, PTAW, and Submerged Arc welding procedures to be used by production personnel.
* Able to perform root cause analysis of welding problems and provide corrective actions.
* Familiarity with commercial welding equipment produced by major manufactures.
* Familiarity with API 611, API 612, ASTM, ASME Section VIII, IX codes, and/or NAVSEA Technical Publications.
* Fluent in Microsoft Office. Ability to clearly and precisely communicate, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization and with clients. Able to work individually and in teams, be self-motivated, well organized, and able to prioritize work.
* Familiar with welding and heat treating of carbon, low alloy steels, and all types of stainless steel – martensitic, ferritic, and austenitic.

Preferred:
* Welding experience in the gas or steam turbine, aerospace, rotating equipment, or heavy industry sectors.
* Experience in electron beam welding, Stellite hard facing using GTAW and PTAW, heat treating and NDT methods, is a considerable plus.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:


* Develop and qualify welding specifications and procedures for both commercial and military standard applications.
* Specify repair sequence, including welding, heat treatment, machining, and NDT as required by contract specifications and code requirements.
* Review and approve vendor welding procedures and qualification records.
* Maintain welder qualification records, conduct qualification testing, administer welder workmanship training as required by NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010-278.
* Review certifications for MIL-Cert filler metal. Oversee storage and control of welding materials.
* Assist designers with weld design, weld joint selection, WPS designation, welding symbols, and NDT requirements.
* Assist shop floor personnel with quality and manufacturing questions.

* 8 years experience in cost estimating and manufacturing knowledge and familiarity.

The Solid Mechanics group supervisor is responsible to oversee the Solid Mechanics group. In this capacity the supervisor will perform or oversee others as they perform these responsibilities:

Providing functional specifications, acceptance testing, and on-going validation for Dresser-Rand’s proprietary solid mechanics software (SmartStress, etc.). Training others in the proper use of the software. Monitoring use of the software to ensure that it is used as intended.

Initiating and supporting new designs or development projects requiring Solid Mechanics expertise. Propose new or modified design changes based on analytical studies and/or test stand/ field experiences.

Providing consultation to other parts of the organization such as: field service engineering, test engineering, aftermarket, product design, marketing, etc.

Promoting D-R technology through customer interaction, technical papers, patents and presentations.

The Principal Development Engineer - Steam Turbine Systems &amp; Platform Engineering is responsible for the Worldwide technology development of Dresser-Rand's next generation single and multiple stage steam turbines. The incumbent will provide technology leadership and direction for internal and external engineering teams, ensure performance-life-cost trade-offs are considered from system and component levels, and deliver new and improved steam turbine products to meet client needs and market demand.

This role will be based in the Greater Albany, NY area. *Worcester, MA would also be a possible location based on candidates preference and space available.
Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

Required:
* BS degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
* 
10 years exp overall design of steam turbines and systems.
* 
Knowledge of reaction steam turbine design.
* 
Demonstrated steam turbine design expertise. Need to have clear understanding of cost / performance trade-offs on product design
* 
Experience designing dynamic components such as blades, disks, shafts, and bearings and structural components such as pressure casings and supports.
* 
Overall knowledge of analytical software tools
* 
Ability to write systems and component design standards and methodologies.
* 
Ability to work in team environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills
* 
Ability to lead in a matrix organization and ability to lead and influence without authority. Demonstrate leadership across organizational boundaries.
* 
Ability to mentor engineers in the understanding and application of system and component design.
* 
Outstanding communication skills with the ability to present effectively to executive leadership.
* 
Proven capability and knowledge in Lean and Continuous Improvement Methodologies
* 
Proven ability to work within schedule and budget requirements.
* 
Knowledge of API and/or ASME Standards.
* 
Possess a passion for learning, capable of learning quickly and translate learning into actionable strategy

Preferred:
* 
Masters or PhD degree
* 

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency preferred.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:

* 
Provide critical technical leadership and oversight across the steam turbine business to implement product and technology development strategy.
* 
Ensure that systems engineering principals are applied during all design phases.
* 
Support development of long-range product technology and platform roadmaps.
* 
Establish the parametric envelope for products to ensure that all products consistently meet the objectives for performance, safety, reliability, and cost effectiveness. 
* 
Work hand-in-hand with the analysis group to quantitatively determine operational performance, physical attributes, expected life, stress levels, and failure modes of new and/or existing designs.
* 
Review of historical data to determine the characteristics and operational performance
